The significance of Tamil New Year to the Hindu people in SA

The South African Tamil Federation-SATF will Thursday celebrate New Year also known as Puthandu. South Africa has over 500 000 Tamil people and this day is celebrated by their communities with neem flowers and raw mangoes which symbolize growth and prosperity. Every year the 14 April marks New Year in the Gregorian calendar but dates differ due to the Tamil region in the northern hemisphere and ancient observations.
